With Raffaele Dall’Olio (founder of BeeSources and co-chair of COLOSS Survivors Task Force), our founder Steve Rogenstein will co-present the pre-recorded talk, “Honey Bee Watch: Using Citizen Science for the First Global Monitoring of Free-Living Colonies of all Apis Species” (with Japanese subtitles).
Honey Bee Watch is a multi-year, global citizen-science study to better understand the biological, behavioral, and environmental traits of survivorship among untreated and free-living honey bee colonies. With more than 10 species of honey bees around the world, Honey Bee Watch starts with a pilot program focused on Western honey bees (Apis mellifera) in the UK in 2021, then will expand in stages to include more Apis species in other regions.
The goal of the study is to increase scientific knowledge about these species, potentially leading to educational programs and conservation initiatives to engage and inspire a wider public to act locally to protect threatened or endangered populations.
